Does this happen to you every Fourth of July?
- Your kids (and confess, you too) want to go see a great
fireworks display.
- That display in the big city is fired from atop that big
building and so far in the sky that your neck will be stiff
until the state fair.
- You have to go very, very early for a good vantage
point.
- Other than eating not much goes on while you wait for the
show.
- Once you have the close spot you'll be stuck in traffic
for an hour when it's time to go.
The Town of
Cicero has most of the solution, as it presents a
3 day
celebration of the Fourth of July. The celebration ends
Sunday night with a fantastic fireworks display, fired from and
reflected in the waters of Morse Lake. The Indiana Transportation Museum
helps with the rest by providing transportation via the "Lights
Over Morse Lake Celebration Trains" on July 2nd and 3rd and the
Fourth of July "Fireworks Train!"
The Museum's July 4th "Fireworks Train" solves the dilemmas
of finding that parking spot and what time to go. Park at the
Museum in Forest Park and ride the Museum's historic
railway to Cicero.
- On Friday July 2nd attend the fish fry at Red Bridge Park.
Catch the earlier train at 6pm or the second train at 7:30 and
return after the fun ends at 9pm. On Friday all trains
stop only at Jackson Street in Cicero.
- On Saturday July 3rd you can choose which events to see
and how long to stay in Cicero.
Depart Forest Park at 9am and arrive in Cicero in time for the
Festival Parade that starts and ends at Community Park.
Depart Forest Park at 1pm and arrive in Cicero as the Kids
Carnival begins. It runs to 5pm. The under 6 and
under 8 "Soccer Friendlies Tournament" also takes place from
1pm to 5pm. Depart Forest Park at
4pm to attend the talent show the starts at 5:30pm and ends at
8:30pm. Depart Forest Park at 7pm
just to visit the activities at Community Park in the cool of
the evening.
All activities on Saturday center around
Community Park on the south side of Cicero so all of our
trains will discharge and board passengers only at that
location. In addition to the events listed above,
Community Park will also host Civil War and Pioneer
encampments. Vendors will also be there. Trains
depart from Community Park for the return to Forest Park in
Noblesville at 11:30am, 2:30pm, 5:30pm and 9pm. Choose
when you want to go and how long you want to stay.
- On Sunday July 4th choose from 3 trains to partake in
any or all activities.
Depart
Forest Park at 2pm to see the Kids Carnival, the Civil War
and Pioneer encampments and the Soccer Friendlies Tournament
or to visit the vendors at Community Park. This train
will stop at Community Park and will depart from there
immediately at
2:30m. Depart from Forest Park at
5pm and arrive at Community Park to visit the end of
activities there. Then, stroll to the center of Cicero
to watch the music festival with its main stage at Jackson
and Main Streets. After the music move toward the lake
for the water ski show. The 5pm train will stop at
Community Park and depart from there immediately at 5:30pm. Depart
from Forest Park at 8pm with just enough time to find seats for
the fireworks that begin about 10:15 PM. This train
will stop at Jackson Street, close to the fireworks
launching point.
The last return train
of the day
departs from Jackson Street about 30 minutes
after the fireworks display concludes. The train will stop
at Community Park to board anyone waiting there and then returns
to Forest Park in Noblesville.
Reservations are
not required for any of these trains. However, due to the
popularity of the event and to prevent over-crowding on the return
on July 4th, reservations will be accepted for the Sunday trains
and the trains could become SOLD OUT prior to that day.
Reservations are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for Sunday's trains.
