THE INDIANA TRANSPORTATION MUSEUM SCHOOL PROGRAMS
History of Indiana Railroads
Few things in life are as exciting as watching a
young child experience a first train ride, or a visit to the engineer's cab of
a big, loud locomotive... The train museum offers a special educational
environment in which to introduce youngsters to the history and technology of
historic railroads and to railroading's importance to Indiana, both
historically and presently.
The Indiana Transportation Museum is located in Forest Park, Noblesville, Indiana. The park is an ideal location for your class to enjoy a picnic. Picnic shelters are available at no cost for weekday school tours. If requested when reservation is made, the museum's gift shop can be opened for your class.
Ride with us on the state's second oldest operating rail line in genuine 1937 streamlined passenger coaches! Train rides will be scheduled Tuesdays through Fridays (depending on volunteer availability), with a grounds tour before or after to accommodate your schedule.
The Museum offers three School Programs: "Railroads in The Midwest," "Harvest Train" (Pumpkin Train) and the "Polar Bear Express©" - School Edition.
For more information on any of these programs, contact ITM Reservations at 317-773-6000 Monday - Friday between 9 AM and 3 PM, or via e-mail at info@itm.org. Allow us to introduce your class to the magical experience of historic railroad operations. Read More.
Railroads in the Midwest
"Railroads in The Midwest" brings your students to the
Indiana Transportation Museum. The train museum's specially trained "Conductor
of Education" will guide your students through the static displays at the ITM
Museum site, as well as on their train ride experience. Students will learn
about the important contributions made by the State of Indiana in the
development of early transportation and historic railroad travel throughout the
Midwest. Read More.
Harvest Train
Between the
first and last weekends of October, the train museum offers "Harvest Train,"
which begins with a tour of our static displays at the train museum in
Noblesville. Students then board the train for the journey to our pumpkin
patch. Along the way they will see Indiana farmland in harvest. Read More.
Polar Bear Express
"The Polar
Bear Express"© features a children's story about Santa Claus and a train. A
spirited reading by volunteers from the Fishers Library, along with visuals and
sound effects, tells of the adventure. Read
