Between the
first and last weekends of October's Pumpkin Train, the Museum offers "Harvest Train,"
which begins with a tour of our static displays at the train museum in
Noblesville. Students then board the train for the journey to our pumpkin
patch. Along the way they will see Indiana farmland in harvest and the importance of
agriculture in Indiana.
Students are able to see where their food is grown.
In 2011 the train ride will take students to the privately owned pumpkin patch
that we visited prior to 2008 for a visit of approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour
as you would like. The owner
of the land will have a burro, baby rabbits and other animals at the patch for students to see and touch. A free, pie-sized pumpkin will be provided to each person in your
group that wants one. Larger
pumpkins will be available for purchase if you allow your students that
opportunity.
Cost for the tour and train ride is $10.00 each for children and
adults with one adult free for each 15 students, with a minimum charge of
$250 (25 paying passengers.) This is the minimum amount we must collect
to operate the train. If you make reservations for a larger group but
bring fewer than 25 you must still pay the minimum. However, if you
bring more than your contracted number of riders we must collect an
additional $10 per person. If your
school group is too small to meet the minimum, we will work with you to
schedule a date and time when your group can be combined with another. We
require a non-refundable deposit equal to the charge for half of your
group. This deposit is due two weeks before your visit.
The
train ride is a round-trip between the Museum in Forest Park and the
pumpkin patch located just north of Noblesville. Trips from any other point on
our line to the pumpkin patch may cost more than $10 per person based on mileage
and equipment needed.
